Gorgeous nature.   Wacky fun.  Intriguing  art.

The Florida Keys are well-known for interesting things to see and do – and many are free.

Here are five to whet your appetite.

  • For those who enjoy  tooling around on bicycles, the Old Seven Mile Bridge at Pigeon Key, Mile Marker 47 , offers a spectacular setting for a scenic ride. Those on foot and skates enjoy it too.
  • Appreciate art.  Murals on buildings, outdoor sculptures and displays in public buildings are among a variety of art pieces that are easily and informally accessible.    Also free for art enthusiasts  — the Third Thursday Art Walk events, which include art, music and food  in the Morada Way Arts & Cultural District, Islamorada, 305-664-9100
  •  The Florida Keys Eco-Discovery Center  features  interactive displays and exhibits that showcase  native plants, native animals, reefs and ecosystems.  The venue is  open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. most Tuesdays through Saturdays, 305-809-4750
  • Mallory Square in Key West  features shops, attractions and is especially popular each afternoon for its lively festivities and street performers celebrating sunset.
  • Florida Keys History of Diving Museum,  mile marker 83 in Islamorada, presents free monthly programs on various diving related topics,  305-664-9737
