Marathon Seafood Festival for $5

shrimpwikiThis weekend, March 14 and 15, is the biggest party of the year in the Middle Keys: the Marathon Seafood Festival at Marathon Community Park, Mile Marker 49.

The event, which has celebrated the Keys’ fishing heritage for more than three decades, will feature fresh local seafood, including lobster tails, stone crab, fish, shrimp. Conch fritters, key lime pie, hamburgers, hot dogs and other fare also will be available, along with cheap drinks.

The event will include live music, activities for kids and a vendors’ marketplace. Entertainers will include John Bartus & Storm Watch, Howard Livingston & Mile Marker 24, Amber Leigh, Mojito with Rolando Rojas, Island Vibe and the Florida Straits Band. Hours are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Admission this year is a bargain: $5 (down from $8) for adults and children under 12 free with a paying adult.
