Thirty-two contemporary sculptures will spend the winter in Key West around two historic Civil War-era forts during the 14th Sculpture Key West exhibition.
Among the highlights of the exhibit, open Jan. 18 through April 18, will be a giant glowing halo, a massive mirror that appears to double the size of its beachfront setting, an audio installation starring two “argumentative” pay phones and a 300-foot line demonstrating the curve of the earth.
The display begins Sunday, Jan. 18, at West Martello Tower, Atlantic Boulevard near White Street Pier., with a free reception from 6 to 8 p.m. The sculptures will be displayed in and around the gardens.
Participating artists include Cameron Gainer, Karlis Rekevics, Diana Shpungin, Blane De St. Croix, John Martini, Lauren P. McAloon and Anja Marais. Sculptures will be erected at Fort Zachary Taylor State Park in late February, with an opening reception from 3 to 6 p.m. March 1. Entrance to the park will be free during those hours.
The artwork will be on display through April 18. More information is at www.sculpturekeywest.com.
